New Home CommunitiesOpelika

Opelika, once known as the trading center of East Alabama is known for its rich railroad history. In 1848, Montgomery and West Point Railroad Company completed a rail line from Montgomery to Opelika. Three years later, they put in a second line that led to West Point, Georgia. The new line became the only rail route from New Orleans to Atlanta, putting Opelika on the map as a major trade town. Today, you can see the historic railroad tracks, and the freight trains that still run along them, in downtown Opelika. Today with a population of approximately 31,600 Opelika is a thriving community full of possibilities. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Downtown Opelika is filled with a variety of specialty shops, galleries, antique shops and restaurants for residents to enjoy.
