Lake Martin is a place where families come to make memories. The lake and its parks, marinas, points, and islands have become known throughout the country as one of the finest in the south. It’s known as Alabama’s Freshwater Coast. The lake was formed by the construction of Martin Dam on the Tallapoosa River. Martin Dam powerhouse is used to generate hydroelectric power for Alabama Power Company. Construction of Martin Dam began in 1923 and was completed in 1926.
